Quick tip today in response to a question asked over on Reddit. The person asking was always late to work no matter how hard they tried not to be, usually due to “traffic” (really, just an excuse). Here’s one of my solutions:

Aim to get to work 30 minutes early. As in, if you have to be at work at 8am – make it your mission to get there at 7.30am every day. When you arrive early, you can do something productive (listen to podcasts, work on one of your goals, post on a self-improvement forum, read a book, etc). You can even start doing a little work early (eg 5-10 minutes before 8am).

If you’re there 30 minutes early every day, this will do 3 things:

  1. If something goes wrong, eg traffic is bad, etc – it won’t matter. You have 30 minutes extra as a “buffer”. Even in horrible traffic you’ll still make it to work slightly early or on time.
  2. If you somehow ever are late again (which should be rare), now nobody’s going to give you shit for it – because you’re early every single other day, and this is just a rare accident. People will be much more understanding since it’s so damn rare.
  3. You’ll get massive brownie points; you’ll be known as the person who always arrives early.

If you start trying this yourself, leave a comment below and let me know how it goes.
